Under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for the promotion of domestic manufacturing, the government has accepted applications from several manufacturers of medical devices, an official statement said.

Siemens Healthcare, Sahajan and Medical Technologies, Nipro India Corporation and Wipro GE Healthcare are among the firms, said the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.

Commercial production is scheduled to start on 1 April 2022 and the government’s disbursement of production-related incentives over the five-year period will be up to a maximum of Rs 121 crore per applicant per target group, the statement said.

Setting up these plants would make the country to a large extent self-reliant in the medical devices sector in the defined target segments, it added.

Four distinct target groups, including cancer care/radiotherapy medical devices, radiology and imaging and nuclear imaging devices, anaesthetics and cardio-respiratory medical devices, including cardio-respiratory catheters and renal care medical devices, and all implants including implantable electronic devices, the ministry said.
