"Zero Tolerance": Centre Brings Tough Law On Attacks On Health Workers

While people across the nation welcome the health workers and those in the field who support the COVID-19 fight, there are few who strike them, thinking they’re spreading the virus,Union minister Prakash Javadekar said after this afternoons cabinet meeting.

Every assault on doctors or health staff would be subject to a fine of anything between Rs 50,000 and Rs 2 lakh and for extreme offences where there are allegations of severe injuries, Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.

The safety of medical workers as non-negotiable in an executive order passed urgently, the government also made it a non-bailable offence.
